.dat files was created by Rockape
Hi Folks,
I know this is not really a network issue, but I'm hoping someone can help. A friend of mine has given me a disk with some files on it that are .dat (movies). Can anyone tell me how to play them?
Thanks

.dat usually contain mpeg1/2 compressed video for VCD/SVCD compatibility. Concerning playback in windows, if you have the appropriate directshow decoders you should be able to play the files with about any player. You can use a program like
MovieID
to verify the codecs used. Most likely the required decoders are already installed by windows media player however.

Sounds like a VCD (would have files like AVSEQ01.DAT etc).
You could just pop it in any VCD player.
