Question on 2 ip on one Nic was created by Lindows
i Was reading the question about the putting two ip address on a nic card. If thats the case, i'm running a windows xp laptop and im interested in installing gateprotect firewall server software on the system. So is it possible to install the server software, then from their put two ip address on my nic, then use a cat 5 cable connect it to my switch and then connect my master pc to the switch with connects to the internet through a usb wireless card.
So in other words, my laptop will act as a firewall for my main pc.
I guess i'm just thinkin crazy

You need two network interfaces to do proper filtering, otherwise you can just setup the firewall software to the individual system(s) you wish to protect. Of course if you have a wireless and an ethernet adapter connected at your laptop, then you already have two network interfaces and you can filter whatever you want effectivelly between them, but this has nothing to do with assigning multiple addresses to one physical network interface.
