Theres a list of xbox live compatible routers here . If its not in the list it will probably still work but I know some older DLinks have issues.

I've used a Belkin and Netgear routers without any problems. My friend uses a LinkSys one and he doesn't have any problems. I think most of the routers you can buy nowadays even have an XBox Live compatible seal right on the box.
@TheBishop - You sure can. I have a 120GB hd in mine and can ftp music, movies and games onto it as well as stream. It sounds like MS and Sony have finally caught on with this whole "media centre" thing and are going to include the functionality in their next generation consoles.

The key requirement with any router you get for XBOX live is that it must support UPnP. That's what you need to look out for in the router specs.
