Hello Network Gurus,
I m confused about ethernet communication speed,i.e.
A server with 100mpbs Ethernet card n Few(3) workstations with 10mpbs Ethernet card will cause any degrade in Network performance ?? Or will they be able to communicate and transfer data/packets in any windows platform. Hope u guys will clear my query. See u till next time.

Hi Suesanne
In your example i'm presuming that you have only 1 server and 3 workstations,
in this case communications will run at the speed of the slowest part of your network i.e your 10mbps workstations
there should no communication problems as your servers network card should be able to detect that the workstations at running at 10mbps and therefore communicate at that speed

As Jackeen said, your network performance will be degraded from your server's prospective.
When connecting the server to a switch @ 100mb and the workstations @ 10mb, all machines are connected to their full capacity (100 and 10 mb respectively) but the server will be using a small portion of its available bandwith since the bottleneck will be at the workstation.
A simple example would be a 5 lane road with only a few cars using e.g 2 lanes.
Hope that helps !
Cheers,
