I need to see if they do allow you to connect to my modem i said no before because i think i try once but am not sure. i don't think they do but ill take a look. Optimum online is a cable company by the way.
Didn't try it with Putty i read something about it but like you said its much better with :22

If you own your modem and there are no legal issues or stuff like that, you could copy the configs some were safe, hardware reset the modem (usually there is a small button for it), and reconfigure again. Not suggesting here that this is easy, but if you are disparate.

ill have to buy one since this one is theirs. i know there are things you can do if you own your own modem i have done it in the past when i had DSL but that wont solve my problem with the web server
