CAT5 Cable Configuration

Please let me know ...we use 4 pair cable in CAT5, where as only 2 are used for trasmission and receiving...why are rest use for.

Thanks for replying, but I came to know that the rest of the 2 pairs are used for synchronization and audio/video data transmission, secondly, sometimes when using 100Mbps, if any of the remaining 2 pairs are not connected properly the network slows down.

Please advise.

Ali,

The rest are not used at all when running upto 100 Mbits full duplex.

However, when running Gigabit ethernet, it will use all 4 pairs. Gigabit ethernet is a topic that will be covered in the future.
