Apache 2.0

Hey Guys,

Here's the situation. I want to host my own website. I have Apache 2.0 its linux based. I have a windows server Enterprise box available, and i was wondering, can i run apache off that box. In other word, can i run apache in the background, or do i have to dedicate the box. Also i need help on securing the site. I have two nics on the server box, is it possible to have the site run through one, and file sharing through another.

So, if anyone does already, what i want to do, i would really appreciate the help. Im open to suggestions.

in my personal opinion i'll go for linux when it comes to servers, especially in mission critical environment. its secured, robust, versatile and importantly you can run it without incuring any cost. this site has got alot of documentation on security and linux to get you started. you also got www.google.com/bsd where you search for info that could help you get your system up in no time.

you do not need a dedicated box for the server but for security reasons you can choose to. you do not want to run irc/yahoo/ or vulnerable programs on the box as alot of people exploits most of these programs to compromise you system. read this www.firewall.cx/articles-network-security.php

to the 2 NIC issue i'm not sure of that and it's something i'd like to do myself. I hope someone reading this could help.

You can run Apache on a Windows server, though most of the time you'll see it on linux. Just a question, Lindows, what file sharing do you intend to do? Is this FTP, bit torrents, file shares, or etc.?
