Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't wireless authentication/connection go something like this?:
AP Broadcasts SSID
Wireless NIC begins searching for SSIDs, to initiate connection.
Wireless NIC finds the SSID being broadcast, and sends a connection offer.
AP ACKs the offer.
Wireless NIC ACKs, connected.
Now somewhere in there, isn't speed negotiated as well?
How does speed negotiation work?
Lastly, why do the "colored bars" in Windows rarely reflect the actual speed which was negotiated?
