Hi Guys,
I've had a chat with The Bishop about this, and we thought we would test this out rather than just "guess" the answer. So, here are the results from the UK Jury.
1) A basic port on a hub is configured as midx.
2) If you have a standard Hub port plugged into a hub port set to Mdi using a Straight through cable, everything works.
3) If you use a standard hub port plugged into a hub port set to Mdi, using a cross-over lead, it doesn't work.
4) If you use a standard hub port plugged into a hub port using a cross-over lead BUT set it to mdix, it works.
If that seemed a bit confusing, don't worry. To make it simple, both options work. So votes for the book, nil points, votes for real life, 10 points.
Cheers
