differentiate cat5 cat3 cable

By looking at the cable can you tell if it is a cat3 or a cat5/5e cable?

Usually cables have some printed information on them, one of them is the category of the cable
Take a look at any cable and you will see for yourself

The more recent cables such as Cat5 and Cat5E are certainly marked. If the cable is older and doesn't say that it is Cat5 then be suspicious because it might not be. Ultimately though, the only way to tell the type of an unmarked cable is to test it
