ISDN wiring

Hello,
Do ISDN connections from your home go thru the same analog telephone lines to the local exchange?
I've heard that the telephone lines are analog from your home to the local exchange?
ISDN being digital all the way needs didgital lines right?

What cables do the telephone lines use?
Are they twisted pair? UTP/STP - Cat3/5/6 ???
If they use twisted pair then the distance limitation of 100 meters apply right? Do they use repeters on the way?

What cables does ISDN use?
How about DSL/Frame relay?

ISDN can be served over the same copper cable connections as a normal telephone line. The difference is in the way the signals are passed down the wire. Same with ADSL which allows you to have both an analogue phone conversation and a data link going over the same pair of wires at the same time.
The cable they use is a form of copper twisted pair. The 100 metre distance limit you refer to applies to 100MB Fast Ethernet links. If the data rates you are sending over the wire are not as challenging then far greater distances can be used. I think the telephone companies use cable that would have trouble passing as Cat3

The distance limitation for any twisted pair connection is 100 meters be it 10mbps or 100mbps or 1000mbps.

In ISDN if you use the PRI services then you data rate can go up to 45mbps.
