Network slow - 1st step::what should i do?

today i expirien with network slow at offshore platform..
all 13 platform issued the same problem
all the switches connect to cisco router..
then the cisco connect to microwave..
then the microwave send the signal to onshore office..
from there(onshore office) the user get ip,notes mail and other application..
my question is, what should i do 1st to tackle this problem?
should i check the switches or computers?
user at onshore connect to network smoothly..
the problem only at offshore..

hi

kindly clarify your problem...what part are you experiencing slowness in the network?...what kind of network do you have?...is it the client/server type?...do you log in a domain environment?...do oyu experience the slowness when logging in your domain or when when accessing network resources such as Internet?...

Until then.. when in doubt tcpdump & traceroute are your friends.

Oh, if I had money for every time people came to me saying "the network's slow" I'd be a rich man!
The very first thing to do is to ask questions. Who says it's slow? And who isn't seeing slow responses? All applications or just some? All servers or just some? Quite often this sort of exercise, coupled with a bit of logic, will tell you where the problem is.
Secondly, just because they say it's slow don't assume that it's the network. It might be the server or the user's PC
