Hi,

I'd like to clarify a point relating to UDP. To quote a sentence from the firewall essay on TCP, "UDP, on the other hand, offers a non reliable way of transferring data without being able to guarantee the data has arrived to its destination or its integrity when it does arrive." I'd like to question the accuracy of the last point of this sentence, being that the integrity of UDP segments cannot be assured. Seeing that UDP segments do contain a checksum, does this not mean that corrupt data can be detected?

Cheers,
Greenice.

Yes you're absolutely correct, UDP does contain a checksum covering the pseudo-header and the entire datagram..

We could reword that sentence.

Cheers,

Sahir Hidayatullah.
