Cables cables every where

I have just brought 2 x Cisco 1600 routers in from the cold. They are nestled in my room and I want to configure them. Basically I do not have the roll over cable or any RJ45/DB9 adapters.

Is there any other option available for connecting so that I can configure them? I have read the "official" material which says it can't be done and I have tried straight through and cross over cables with no joy.

If it can't be done can anyone recommend a good supplier of Cisco cabling in the UK for non commercial purchases?

you can make your own roll over cable...search google on how to make one..but basically it is having a cat5 utp cable having its ends different from one another.

Thanks.

Yeah I had seen the cabling diagram but didn't have the tools at home or the RJ-45 connectors. So I was trying to see if there was a way of using traight through or cross over by reconfiguring via the OS.

......but I found the whole legit Cisco cable kit...today at work, so my problems are all sorted.

Thanks for your comments :)

Well life is never simple.

Got the cable kit home all eager like... then went to connect the RJ45/DB9 adaptor and found that these damn modern laptops don't have no damn serial port!!!!

Lucky I am collector of old and new and I had a P1 Wintel box handy and built. Connected and saw my very first Cisco router via the console connection!

Ahh yes it was magical experience. Ok maybe I am going a bit OTT. Anyway cheers for the tips and tricks so far. I'll be back to learn and earn very soon.
