OSPF

A short description....OSPF is a link-state protocol which works by communicating with neighbouring routers, each router will send out updated routing tables when they get updated, not every 30 seconds or so like RIP, which is just one benefit that OSPF has over older protocols.
It determines the shortest cost of a path to determine the best route and isn't hindered by the 15 hop limit on RIP.
OSPF routers can be assigned into Areas which help determine which routers talk to each other.
There is a lot more stuff you should know but I'm not going to babble on for ages...mainly because I aren't the best at explaining things
Theres heaps of info on the net, or theres some specific cisco OSPF books...
have fun
Ben.
