as i said before ........its VARIABLE ........it depends on how ur traceroute program works...... traceroute is not limited just for 30 hops use " tracroute -h " option to increase the number of hop......
traceroute is a utility which uses ICMP to find each hops IP and time to get there......RIP is a routing protocol to find the path(i.e. best next hop) to the destination ...both r for diff purpose.....

wowww... thanks to open this thread. Now i can imagine how does the routing actually works.. My thanks goes to Nevin to post this thread with a very very simple question that most of us dont know.
Most of us knows how does to configure/etc..but we must know how the very basic and fundamental ways of routing before we proceed overhead.
