Are you trying to share an internet connection between these 10 computers ??
As far as IP addresses go, you can safely assign them
192.168.0.1-254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
Give me some more details.... if its connection sharing you want, you can use XP's built in Internet Connection Sharing, it will work fine, and handle the IP addressing automatically through DHCP.

Another easy way would be to set the server up as a DHCP server and the 10 clients up to use DHCP as apposed to static IP’s. Depending on how much control you don’t want you could setup quickly and use Microsoft’s ICS (Internet Connection Service) that is if you’re using Microsoft OS’s.
