Metro Ethernet = Ethernet in town or city or other metropolitan area. No special equipment required as it is based on the Ethernet IEEE802.3 standard. Basically, a metro ethernet network means the town or area has CAT 5 cabling instead of (or as well as) ordinary phone cabling.
