Can anyone let me know the exact differnce between group specific and general queriesin IGMP. As we can detrmine which all hosts are present in each group by just sending general query Why do we require specific query. What is exact significance of group specific query?
It is not so much about determining the hosts, the improvement is in targeting the right group (group-specific query) as opposed to what can effectively be a broadcast (general query to all-hosts multicast address).
