Network Set up was created by uncleant
Currently I have three computers connected to a router which is connected to my cable modem. I would like to know if adding a hub between my computers and the router would be of any benefit.

In my estimation a hub would be beneficial only if you needed to add more devices ie. printers/scanners/PCs, otherwise its just one more point of failure.

A scapegoat is often as welcome as a solution...never memorize what you can look up.

To add to UHSsncmrm's message, if you are going for an extension of your network, try and use a switch as it provides many benefits over a hub.

See the switch section of this site under Networking > Connectivity

But when you say you have 3 computers connected to a router which is then connected to your cable modem, I am assuming that it has some sort of hub/switch built in to get that many computers connected?

I had the same question.

I assume you have some sort of router that is also a switch to get all three computers accessing the cable modem.

What are you using to connect all the computers?

Thanks,

Tom

Anyway adding a hub will not provide a performance benefit.. as said before, a switch would.
