DynDNS works by a piece of software being installed on a client machine inside the network. This software contacts the DynDNS servers with your account details and updates their servers with your IP Address (as its NAT'd). Then the DNS records are updated to the current IP Address that the traffic is received from.

Some routers do have the functionality of tapping directly into DynDNS as they have an option for configuring it.

Hey Guys, what about using Trace Route? would that work? Of course, you'd need to know an address on the other side of the router. But otherwise, would that work?

Cheers

Rockape,

It would depend on if NAT was being used. I think everyone has made that presumption which may be a mistake i suppose ?

Yes. NAT is being used.

The only thing that makes sense is that "DynDNS works by a piece of software being installed on a client machine inside the network." as Smurf points out.

Now I ask you. What is normally use as the piece of software?

Cheers.

If you look at this page on DynDNS, the service there is free and there are free clients to install.

Cheers
