What's the difference between a "Catalyst" and not catalyst unit? And what does "XL" mean at the end of some devices?

You can tell I'm new to this stuff....

Thanks!

As far as I know 'Catalyst' is just the name of a particular product family within the Cisco portfolio. I don't think it has any technical significance

as far as I know catalyst switches are the product line that was continued to be produced by Cisco after Cisco bought the company that produced Catalyst Switches that at the time speakinf ran CatOs. Cisco modified and made possivbe to run Cisco IOS on them.

Hope it helps
