Hi Brandon,
Hehe, been watching your other posts about this question
Don't get confussed between the Ethernet and Serial. Generally you are looking at the Ethernet/FastEthernet/Gigabit/10Gigabit interfaces are for Ethernet (LAN) traffic. Thats dealing with the Ethernet Frames.
Serial interfaces you are generally looking at WAN, Point-to-Point (point-to-multipoint if using logical) traffic which is either circuit-switched or packet-switched. You are looking at things like HDLC, PPP, Frame-Relay, ISDN, ATM, X.25 etc...
As you can see, its a different kettle of fish really.
Hope it helps you understand the difference between the interfaces on your 2501. As you said in the other post, you can setup a serial link between your two 2501, you would generally use PPP encapsulation (or HDLC which is Ciscos Propriatry) for the link which is point to point.
Cheers
Wayne

So could you use the ethernet interface as a wan then ? to connect to another router that had internet or a modem that has ethernet port? the interfaces then are not wan and lan but are whatever you make them ? they are serial and ethernet interfaces not necessarly either wan or lan ?
