channelized and unchannelized E1

Hi Guys!
I wanto ask the difference between Channelized E1 and unchannelized E1?In what scenarios these two types of E1 can be used?And how data from Channelized E1 be transported to Unchannelized E1 and still able to distinguish each user's data
so tht it can reach the user requesting the specific data(Like in ISP network traffic,where Data from PRI(channelized E1 ) goes out to Internet cloud using unchannelized E1 and comes back to the right user without mixing the data from every user.
How this data be seperate from each other despite being transported to Unchannelized E1 ?And can there b channelized E1 which is not PRI? i know a lot of questions for one post but hey i wana learn :)

Hi,

An E1 circuit provide a transmission speed of 2.04b Mb/s (2m). The 2Mb is made up of a frame containing 64 kb/s timeslots.

The timeslots can be allocated as follows:

TS0: Framing.
TS1 -15: Voice/Data traffic
TS16: Signalling
TS 17 -TS32: Voice Data Traffic

The actual use of the timeslots can be configured depending upon the use of the E1. The example above is taken from a traditional telecoms E1 circuit.

For datacomms the following might be used:

TS0: Framing
TS1 -TS32: Data traffic

or

TS0 -TS32: Data traffic

The first of these (TS1-TS32 for Data) is an example of Channelized E1, and is used where the framing is required. Often referred to as G.704 (the ITU standard). Channelized E1 allows any of the 32 timeslots to be identified and extracted.

The second is Unchannelized, and used where no framing is required (G.703) and is used where the full bandwidth (2 Mb/s) is required, and timeslot extraction is not required.

Thnx for a very informative explaination but i have some more questions .

1) You've said tht in datacom E1 (TS1-32) or (TS0-32) are used for Data traffic((u didnt mention voice traffic) .Does it mean tht voice traffic cant be transported through these kinda Datacomm E1s? As there is no signalling timeslot in these E1 (whether unchannelized or channelized)?
2) Are timeslots and channels the same things?and if they r the same things ,you've said tht Unchannelized E1 (having no channels) have (TS0-32) used for data traffic.If they are unchannelized y hav they TS0-32 timeslots ?
If timeslots and channels are different things plz explain the difference between them.

Hi,

Channels & timeslots are the same thing. Answers to your questions are:

1) Unchannelized should not be used for voice traffic due to the lack of a signalling & framing timeslots. Voice needs to be presented in it's discrete timeslots so require the framing timeslots. Also the require the signalling timeslot to inform the recieving equipment of how to manage the voice traffic, and features.

2) Unchannelized E1 does not have the channel structure but uses the TS0 -TS32 'space for data traffic. sorry for the confusion.
