Static routes can be defined by interface or IP addr. What are the pros and cons of using each? I have seen examples of static routes using both techniques but is there a rule of thumb as to when to use an IP and when to use the Interface?

Hi
Using the interface is more preferred over using the IP address because there could be instances were you may change the subnet / IP in a network segment. In such scenerios you can keep the routing table untouched since its the same interface connecting to the destination / route to destination.
Thanks
Paul

I figured that was the case. I guess it could equated to specifying nodes by hostname vs ip. Sometimes its better to use hostname and other times by the ip addr.
Thanks!
