Collision on Ethernet 0/0

Sorry if this questrion was asked previously, new to this forum and website, so far I like what I see.

Anyway to the question: I have a 2600 series cisco router and when I look at the interfaces the etherner 0/0 gives me the following:
40090469 packets input, 935294929 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 45913 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
80 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 80 ignored
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
40642017 packets output, 2836187659 bytes, 0 underruns
11 output errors, 1460172 collisions, 1 interface resets
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 329549 deferred
10 lost carrier, 0 no carrier
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

My concern or question is, is it normal to have this (1460172 )many collisions, 10 lost carrier, 11 output errors?

Is this normal for the ethernet port of the router or should I be concerned by these numbers. Any comments or answers are greatly appriciated.

This could be a cable problem, possibly crossed-over. It might be a speed/duplex issue, check to see if the host connected to that port has the same settings as the port. Those are the two things that come to mind right away. Either way, collisions are not good.

The other question you don't know the answer to is "when did these collisions occur?" Quite often when networks are being put together configuration errors are made as jwj suggests. Once these have been eliminated everything works fine, but those initial error indications remain there in the stats. I suggest you zero your counters then check after a day or so to see whether the collisions you have noticed are historical or indications of a current problem

Ah, but as has been stated in other posts, collisions on an ethernet segment are both normal and expected. He stated that the interface was Ethernet 0/0, meaning it will be 10/half so you will experience collisions. Also, we do not know how long those counters have been running. Those collisions could be over the period of a month, a year, etc... we do not know. As was suggested, clear the counters and see how fast they grow.

That's a good point about regular ethernet. An upgrade to fast ethernet would be the ideal solution.
