How About A Programming Forum

Hi,

I'm sure fw.cx team is busy with all the ongoing projects, but I was wondering if it would be possible to have a forum for programming.

would it be a fair assumption on my part to say it may happen in the near future?

If there is a good and stable flow of posts related to programming, sure!
For the time being there is just not enough interest however.

cheers

yes i had this feeling everytime something about programming would stump me. but then i also had this feeling that firewall.cx was all about networking, or more appropriatly, mostly about networking.
since the programming field is so vast, but then even networking is.....it might be a good idea. making some general forums like web programming, system programming, application programming, and then each such forum further subdivided into their own domain would not be a bad idea at all.
say for instance under application programming, you can have further subdivisions like Java, MS Studio (Visual Java, C#,C++, Basic etc), etc.
what say you folks?

There is a thin line between organizing and fragmenting, right now I'm afraid there are not enough topics related to programming to even create one forum dedicated to coding and that would result to fragmentation.

I don't think the lack of a forum specifically for programming discourages anyone to discuss related topics -if there are enough of these topics we'll certainly create as many forums as needed to accomodate them in an easily navigating way ;)

Truth is there are currently a few forums that remain relatively unpopulated, like the Mac OSX, however there is the intention to actively maintain them and provide material from members that have a special interest in those areas (a great introductory tutorial on Macs is already being written by The_Berzerker). Unfortunately for programming there is not such capability right now, but it's up to anyone interested to push things to that direction :)

I agree with nske. It could get really fragmented if new forums are created before the demand actually arises. I believe in the power of the market!! When we begin to get a preponderance of Programming-related, then it may be worth looking at creating more specialised forums (or should I say, fora!)

I say this, having an active interest in programming myself.

hehe, it's funny that "forum" and "market" translate into the same word in greek ("agora") :)
