PS. which study guides do you recommend?
I've heard that Microsoft's self-study guides aren't good enough....

Hi there.
Well i've done my windows 2000 mcsa+mcse. Try this link to decide how far you wanna go with them.
www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcsa/mcsa_mcse.asp
I would certainly make sure u pick some interesting electives, like exchange/SQL or ISA.
The self study guides are good, but there are other great publications like sybex and syngress out there. it all depends on the exam. join this below forum, these guys(fellow IT pro's) offer great advice on which books to take for which exam
www.mcsebraindumps.com/bb
first go for xp (70-270) this will give u ure mcp. The examcram book is great for this!
www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/078972.../026-9072803-4582059
good luck, sorry this quick random reply, but i really need a number 2!! eeek

hi ,
i am also preparing for the 70-270 exam.
i got the mspress book. i think ms books cover everything. this is a good start for a beginner. then you must consider purchasing anotker book (think of sybex) to have a global idea of the subjects.
