Hey guys!
I've always wonders where should i go to obtain my certification. I hear that you don't need them, and i hear you do. Are they really important to obtain? I'm open to any and all forms of advice.
I'm currently in college working on my BS in Information systems, and I have a student job in a marketing department.
Can anyone in the IT field let me know what cetifications i should train for. I just don't want to be certified by qualified.

Certifications are valuable but so is real-world experience. You can base a career on experience alone (for example, I've been in IT over 20 years, through several jobs without any break yet don't have a single IT cert) but I feel that these days it is becoming more and more difficult to get that first position without some certifications to your name. After all, if you were a recruiter reading through a pack of CVs, which ones would you shortlist for interview if there were good looking people but some had certs as well and some did not? Once you're in the industry however, it's track record that takes over. The more you approach my advanced stage of decomposition, the more your track record is considered over everything else. And that's where relevant, demonstrable, real-world practical achievements come in

Hi Bishop,
Thank you for replying to my post with that useful inside information. i believe you are right regarding how complicated the IT field has become. Today's IT possitions want employees who have the certifications along with the 2 or more years of experience.
I believe that was part of the puzzle that i did want to see. So, now on i'll persue landing some internships if possible, and during that time period work towards my certificates.
Thanks for the help bishop.
