I have these problems with my PIX

1. the PDM freezes in my java enabled browser (IE6). is there any
way out ?

2. I am not able to telnet to my PIX. i have configured thru the
following commnands
telnet 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.255 inside
passwd <my password>

but i am not able to telnet. the telnet client is a win2k
professional and spits out the error connect failed.

3. I was told that the Cisco PIX 501 has a 4 port switch. But i was
able to establish connectivity to a Cisco 1924 switch thru a
straight through cable between eth1 and the switch port!
To the best of my knowledge, i know that swicth 2 swicth
connection is possible only thru cross over cable!

i would be greatful if u folks can help me in this matter.

thanks in advance

HI,

Go to the website www.java.com and get the latest java update on ur machine. Connect ur machine with the inside interface fo the pix firewall with a cross over cable directly and then make ur machine a DHCP client. If ur machine gets an ip address then ur inside interface is acting as the DHCP server.

If ur able to connect to the pix firewall using the console then give the following commands
telnet 0 0 inside
passwd <cisco>
en password <cisco123>

Lemme know if u have any further issues.

Hi,

1) If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, be sure to use JDK version 1.1.4. To check which version you have, launch PDM. In the main PDM menu, click Help>About Cisco PIX Device Manager. When the About PDM information window appears, it displays your browser specifications in a table, including your JDK version. If you have an older JDK version, get the latest JVM from Microsoft by downloading the product called Virtual Machine

2) You use a crossover cable or straight cable between 2 devices depending upon their Tx & Rx pins. For similar devices ,the pins would be in similar positions , so u would use a crossover , so that transmission of one device reaches the receiver of the other and vice- versa.
E.g. computer 1 <
> computer 2 :
Tx crossover cable Tx
Rx Rx
In case of switches , the ports are internally crossed ,so the connection becomes

computer or PIX <
> switch
Tx straight cable Rx
Rx Tx
