Internet limited buy IP was created by JimShoe
At the small business that i work at they limit your Internet to specific site. They do this through the Ip Address. Here is an example lets say my CPU's ip it 10.0.0.225 it is limited but the ip 10.0.0.14 is completely open. Now i know they use a cisco 1700. I don't in anyway want to mess with the router but do u know of maybe a way i can have other ips that are open. is there a way to mast them or just another range that might work. I do not want to Hack the router (bad for me and the company).
Thanks
Jim

get nmap or a similar portscanner, ping all the IPs within your subnet and identify which are in use. Then select one that is not in use
for example
nmap -sP 10.10.10.*
will give you all the IPs that are taken. Then you can just change to an IP that is not taken
for example
nmap -sP 10.10.10.*
will give you all the IPs that are taken. Then you can just change to an IP that is not taken

IFTY has got a good point
Perhaps installing a application like IP network browser (available on our site) is an easier solution to figure out the IP's that are not in use.... that of course assumes you have the right to install an application :!:

I have Admin rights, but i sometimes have to use a cpu that is blocked and there are not many ips i have found that are not blocked. I think the Network admin has blocked all but certin ones. I was wondering if there was a way to trick the router into thinking the ip i want to use it open.

hi,
i think this is what the situation is like .........
only certain ip's are allowed to browse or access the external world.......
the others are blocked by the router.....
and the ones which are allowed have restrictions imposed on them....
hmmm...interesting....sahir's solution would have been a viable one if the other ip's were not blocked ...
u know ... it would be a lot helpful if you could describe your network a little more ....like ..u said that you are using a 1700 access router ....daah .. i donno ...cant think of anythin much as of now ...
