It was an interesting problem.
Part was the spyware problem. Although, I am not sure how much problem it was causing.
I did try uninstalling the NavHelper and it seemed to work. My friend had also tried to run Spy Hunter - which deleted some stuff. But when I loaded and ran Ad-aware 6.1 - it found (and deleted) 55 entries. This included about 6-8 NavHelper files. When done there were no entries in the registry.
But what we did this morning (before deleting the spyware stuff), was get ahold of his cable company (again). I had determined last night that it was a DNS problem - just not sure where it was manifesting itself (at the ISP or our machine). We found that the ISP could not see our machine, which was when we realized that he had Nortons Firewall on. When we turned it off, I could surf and they could get in. I'm not sure why the DNS was not working and that only started yesterday - he has had the norton program on for a couple of weeks - so why all of a sudden was it not working?
I left norton off, installed a linksys firewall and all is now well.
Thanks for the help.
