Cannot access Router IP on FE0/0 from internal switch

Please excuse my (probably) basic question.

I have a 2811, with a 9 port POE switch fitted internally. I have connected a variety of devices to the switch and all route/communicate correctly. (Shows as FastEthernet0/1/0 thru 8)

I have connected a patch cable between FastEthernet0/0 and the switch, to enable network configuration of the router from another switch connected device.

The ports come to the UPSTATE but I cannot ping the "router" address.

I suspect this is a vlan thing, but everythign is on the default vlan (1).

Any tips?

What IP addresses are you using?
Also give the subnets.

How did you configure the router IP address?
