SpiceWorks IT Management Software was created by ZiPPy
Is anybody running SpiceWorks on there network?
SpiceWorks is a free IT Network Monitoring Software for Network Management.
With the bad economy in the states many IT departments, including mine, are cutting back on expenses. They are directly cutting IT budgets, which lead IT to solutions such as SpiceWorks. SpiceWorks is a very intuitive IT Management Software. The only downside is you have to deal with ads within the application. But you can easily block the ads and still use the app by running the app in Firefox and use AdBlocker.
The great thing about SpiceWorks is that you don't have to install an agent on the servers. But this is where I am concerned and wanted to see if anybody found any security risks or heard of any risks? I realize that nothing really is free, especially for a good Management Software. But I think SpiceWorks might be on to something, this looks like a good find.
Has anybody ran this before? Security risks? Other issues possibly?
Cheers,
ZiPPy

I don't think anybody cares about this post, because they think its some lame program, spyware or a porn site.
Wow! I thought I would get some input, guess not.

Hey talk2sp is network magic any good?
I'm currently testing What'sUp Gold by Ipswitch. We are looking to use WUG and Spiceworks, and currently testing both apps.
Wonder if network magic is worth checking out.
Let me know some details on it.
Cheers,

I briefly used SpiceWorks, but not enough to have any real feedback. I downloaded it, installed it, ran it on my server, saw that it did work (by showing me the software that it had), and I uninstalled it. Later I installed it again for a different test, and saw that it had more features than I didn't expect to see -- the ability to scan different subnets and different OSs. I later uninstalled it again.
One thing that annoyed me right off the bat was the fact that I had to register with them before I could use the app, but that shouldn't have surprised me as nowadays you're practically required to register just to view a simple website.
