FIXED IT!!

As promised, here's the detail: The problem was that when the management server machine got rebuilt following it's disk crash, there is a licence key that has to go on the machine and the one that was put on was the wrong one (we have a test rig of the infrastructure, and it was the test rig key that they loaded). In this scenario, it all seems to work in firewall terms but the communication channel between the devices and the management server must use this key to authenticate and so it woudn't communicate. Installing the correct license key fixed the problem
