hi sujo,
if you are talking about NIS as in Norton Internet Security Suite, then here is a method:
1) open up NIS
2) click on Personal Firewall on the main page, you will notice that the bar on the right hand side now changes to display two new buttons, "Turn Off", and "Configure". click on "Configure"
3)now you will see a new window appear with four tabs: it opens of the default tab which is the first one named Firewall, then Programs, then Networking, then Locations, then Advanced. if you don't have these tabs, just make sure you have the Programs tab.
4) on the Programs tab, there is a line which says, "Turn On Automatic Program Control". make sure the check box beside it is ticked. this allows NIS to create rules for any programs which you have missed while creating rules. it monitors for programs which are not inclused in the "Manual Program Control" (explanation coming up!!!), and then asks you whether you want to block it or permit it to access the network. you are left with the choice. but remember, once you have made the choice, you will have to stick to it, or else you will need to manually reconfigure it using the next procedure.
5) the last section on this page is the Manual Program Control. this allows you to configure programs with customs rules which you set for them. you will see a row of button under the list which you will create. they are Add, Modify, Remove and Program Scan. click on Add. this opens up a default Selection Window, and you will be able to choose the program. Once you have done that, NIS will show a new window which asks you to describe the rule which you want to set for that particular program. your options are: Permit, Block, and Manually Configure Internet Access. you will choose accordingly. once you have finished, that program will appear on the list on Manual Program Control with your custom rule.
this way you can create rules for any programs you want to either allow or block internet access from them.
