CommView packet analyzer and ip address 169.254.x.x

I tried to use commview v5 , I disbaled wired card and I used wireless card, i found this ip address as Local 169.254.242.9 (windows default) and this ip address as Remote: 38.101.111.18

1- Why this ip address ( assigned by windows to diconnected nic ) communicated with the 38.101.111.18

2- Why there are two colors under "Packet" Tab,,,blue and purple ?

This is an odd problem and I really have no idea why you have an address in the 38.x range connecting to your wireless lan card.

Logically the address range 169.254.x.x is part of the Microsoft auto-assigned ip addresses when there is no DHCP server around.

If you are seeing remote addresses in an network different from that you are currently in (169.254.x.x) then I'm led to believe that someone has a DHCP server giving out 169.254.x.x range ip addresses to trick users to think it was automatically provided by the system, but also giving them a gateway ip address to connect to their systems later on;

This is just a speculation, so you'll need to check if there is a gateway ip address assigned to your system's card.

I tried the test at work, the wireless card was assigned the private ip address 10.70.x.x. I alised the ip address 10.70.x.x to the name LatitudeD600 (as you have seen in the link that I provided).

Wired card is diconnected form cable, there is no way that DHCP server can assigne ip address of range 169.254.x.x,,,yes if it is connected to cable , may be we can expect that.
