From experience, the learning curve of a pix firewall is very steep. I have used Pix 515 and it takes a while to get into it. What about
www.smoothwall.org
? Free if you want or you can buy it for $200 and get support. Or
www.gta.com
it the Gnat box. GUI based and really easy to use. You could get up and running in 30 mins.....

I bought a PIX 501 Firewall to practice and learn with for my CCNA and for my own knowledge. I haven't sat down with it yet because I just got it yesterday. But is is hard to learn? Dudbolt you say it has a steep learning curve. UH-OH! But I am up for it...gotta learn this stuff sometime.

Zippy,
Just depends how much experience you have hacking out at the command line, if you have the CCNA experience, you should have no probs.
The PIX OS is very like the Cisco IOS and you should be fine.
