My Router is getting hammered! What's going on? was created by Maskkkk
The light on my router keeps flashing like crazy! What's going on here? It's only since I switched to Adelphia Cable modems that this has been happening.... Does anybody have any idea why this might be?

I can tell you that the same thing happened to me when Comcast switched me from a /24 network to a /19 network. When I did a packet capture on the segment between the cable modem and router, I was getting 3000 arp requests a second.

Try doing a packet capture if you can. You need to look for any "unusual" activity. In addition, you may have a PC or another piece of equipment with a faulty NIC which is transmitting all the time and generating a lot of traffic on the net. Your Router may be ARPing out, or your provider may be trying to ARP in. Really, there are lots of possibilites, so get a packet capture done, and start your investigations from there.

I agree. Use protocol expert for tracing the packets sent throughout your network. This will show you if you are receiving packets from other people not belonging to your network, or maybe your router is just working over time. But in any case, try it.
