got through. My guess is that the few seconds upon boot when it wasn't loaded is when it got through.
So preferably something that
-isn't just an interface to the windows firewall and is active right away.
-easy admining (ie text based file to change rules, stop/start and scriptable, deny in/out via ip)
*basically will deny all and only allow a few ports to my servers.
-and not visible to user
I'm going to start reading through this
osswin.sourceforge.net/#firewall
And on my list to review/re-review are zonealarm, kerio, sygate.
Appreciate any suggestions.
A hardware firewall might be an option if
a) It was cheap
b) It was powered by the PC, so a reboot/reset would also reset it and help in alleviating any freezing or gone wacky problems.
*I had looked at a good one a year or two ago and they were a bit to pricey at the time but pretty cool.
fyi,
Machines are pretty locked down and only one application runs.
They don't use email/IE/internet. So from the shooting themselves in the foot department they are pretty safe. Mainly network probes I'm worried about.
