VLAN on 3550 Troubles was created by mantrl
Hello,

I'm new to cisco switches and I'm having trouble setting up vlans. Here's my situation:

I have a linksys router doing dhcp connected to the Catalyst 3550 switch. I reset the switch and was able to complete the initial configuration.

My router ip is 192.168.1.1/24 (/24 = Subnet: 255.255.255.0), and I set Vlan1 to 192.168.1.2/24. Now I was able to create Vlan2 and set its ip to 10.1.2.1/24 and "bind" it to FastEthernet0/2. I also ran a static route to 192.168.1.1 and used the ip helper-address 192.168.1.1.

Here's where my problem lies, I then connected a computer to FastEthernet0/2 but the computer does not get an ip from the dhcp.

I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong, so if someone can point it out or better yet have a step by step vlan configuration guide from the beginning I would be grateful. I'm also aware of the fact that the 3550 can do the dhcp itself, but unsure of how to set that up.

Thanks in advance.

Mantrl,

We've only recently dealt with a very similar problem recently.

I'd advise you check out my post here www.firewall.cx/ftopic-1989-10.html as you'll surely find the solution :)

Let us know how it went.

Cheers,
