Its the good old Skin Effect, beloved of Radio Amateurs and RF engineers worldwide. And used by Hi-Fi vendors worldwide to con people into parting with serious money for multi-stranded gold plated speaker flex to "improve the high frequency response" of their systems. Doh! The skin effect doesn't kick in until you're well above the audible range. I use bog-standard 13-amp mains cable for mine (steps off soapbox). What I found interesting though was the comment that the dielectric effect of the sheath surrounding the conductor becomes significant when the signal is propogating down the outside of the conductor. I'd never quite thought of that before. Explains quite well why it is so important not to kink or crush the cable
