Ahh, nice post, you want some open source network monitoring ?
There were a couple of posts on this, I'll dig them up for you..
as a stopgap arrangment, get the newest nmap (3.55) and
nmap -sP x.x.x.y/z
it will spit out the MACs as well in the new version..
