DNS Blues... was created by Maskkkk
Hmm I keep getting this error when I start Xwindows in my red hat 9 installation:

Could not lookup internet address for bigbertha.
This may prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct this problem by adding bigbertha to the file /etc/hosts

But it's already in the file!
I don't understand.

/etc/hosts

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.102 bigbirtha.ijkijkijk.com bigbirtha
192.168.0.102 www.BecomingOrthodox.com BecomingOrthodox ftp.BecomingOrthodox.com
192.168.0.102 www.minx.org
192.168.0.102 www.leapfrog.co.uk
192.168.0.102 www.sumosing.com

Thank you,
Maskkkk

Aah this is a common problem.. i believe the solution was to have
127.0.0.1 also resolving to bigbertha or something similar

etiehr that or
hostname bigbertha.

a quick google will tell you the answer.. I had this ages ago when I was a gnome user.

for the interested, its now fluxbox.

"Could not lookup internet address for bigbertha. "

"192.168.0.102 bigbirtha.ijkijkijk.com bigbirtha "

Notice the spelling of bigbirtha in your /etc/hosts has an i in birtha and your hostname is referring to bigbertha with an e instead of an i.
