Extra Nic in my system was created by tfs
I was just looking at Sahirhs new ipconfig command and found an interesting anomoly that I hadn't seen before on my W2K computer.

I have an extra entry that I can't figure out. It just seemed to show up. I don't know where it came from or what it is for. It isn't in my network places properties.

It's the first ethernet adapter with no address.

Anyone seen this before or know what it is?

C:\>ipconfig /all

Thats odd.. does it show as a hardware device in the Windows hardware list ?

One odd thing is the 'node type: broadcast'.. none of my adaptors have that.

Not in hardware list.

The interesting thing if you look on Google with "NOC Extranet Access Adapter", you will see about 25-30 responses with exactly the same MAC address, but nothing to say what it is.

Someone thought it was a VPN entry for Bay Networks (neither of which I have).

Thanks,

Tom

Some people seem to think its spyware (I'm not so sure as I don't see what use spyware would have for adding another adapter). Either way why not download adaware and spybot search & destroy and just make sure ?

Also, is the network
irvn1.occa.home
known to you ? Or does it just seem arbitrary.

Last thing, get ethereal ( www.ethereal.com ). See if that adapter shows up in the adapters list and then sniff on it.. since it doesnt have an IP address it should not be able to send / recieve anything.

The only things I can think of are that it belongs to some sniffer (you don't need an IP to go into promiscuous mode) or some program that needs a 'broadcast node' ?!?
