Static route alternatives was created by synister
My boss really hates having static routes in oujr environment. But i havent been able to figure out an alertnative. Can you guys offer me a hint on an alternative to using statics (when using dynamic protocals dont cut it, ie eigrp) or some insight as to how to argue why we need static.
In my environment i have number of voip and other systems that i have had to integreate into my cisco hub.... thanks in advance.

EIGRP or OSPF are your best bet. You need static routes only in some situations like an ISDN link, because dynamic routing protocols would cause such links to make a connection every time there is a routing broadcast. An ISP might also need static routes on their edge routers to connect their customers. Homes and businesses usually need a default route on the edge router to connect to internet via their ISP.
The rule of thumb is, whenever dynamic routing is not possible or costly, static routes can be used.
