Picking pebbles on the shore of the networking ocean
Hi Chris,
Glad to be of assistance, I can imagine it can be annoying when I ask a question about an issue, and then half an hour later I am posting the solution myself. But you see, I can't help troubleshooting. It's one of my best skill sets

I then tried using FTP instead and it worked first go! So, if anyone out there is experiencing issues with TFTP, always remember that FTP is also an option - especially if you're performing the upgrade remotely, it's recommended to make use of FTP, to ensure you don't get any problems !!

Also guys, bear in mind, application sharing via BTHomehub or similar equipment is only possible if you are going to do it, for one machine against one MAC address, per session.
What this means is that FTP Server can be put under Application Sharing as a entry for only one device at a time.
For instance, I cannot add multiple entries for multiple devices to let the BTHomehub allow FTP Server application sharing. I have two routers with whom I can engage in a TFTP session via my desktop and BTHomehub. But I can activate that TFTP session only one device at a time. Every time I have to initiate a TFTP session to the other device I have to go into the BT Homehub, remove the application sharing entry for FTP Server for the previous device, enter the new entry for the second router.
BTHomehub will not allow multiple entries for the same type of application sharing. Sad but true.
Hope other devices do this as default

Additional tip for switches. BT Homehub cannot detect Cisco Switches as a seperate device, for the simple reason that it cannot detect the default vlan1 address as it doesn't have any MAC. It only detects the MAC address of the port used on the switch to connect to the Homehub, and the vlan1 IP address. But it cannot correlate the two together.
So when TFTP is enabled between a host to a cisco switch, via the BTHomehub, there is no need to assign the FTP Server Application Sharing to the switch. The TFTP session just works perfectly fine.
