i have an issue here

in the prometric department of my organisation, i have a domain controller (2003 server) hosting two clients. we use the 2003 server and 2 xp clients to conduct prometric exams. now we are introducing personvue exam- an XP serving as a default gateway for another xp client for personvue exams.

my problem

the new color printer I got for personvue exams is no supported by 2003 server, so i cant install on 2003 server to pshare. the 6943 series hp color printer is also a network printer. I tried the network option but my 2003 clients cant see the printer.

my setup

2003 server IP 192.168.0.111 LANCARD 1
IP 192.168.1.22 LANCARD 2
domain xp clients IP 192.168.0.211 client 1
xp client IP 192.168.0.113

xp (personvue) IP 192.168.1.28 LANCARD 1
IP 192.168.0.211 LANCARD 2

xp (personvue clientIP 192.168.0.212 , also have a second lancard for internet connectivity have an IP 192.168.1.50

I want to run a network printer that can accept querries from all systems.

I'm not too sure how you're various machines are interconnected here, but:
First you need to arrange your network so that all the PCs can 'see' the IP of the printer by setting up whatever routing you need to achieve this
Second, once all your PCs can ping the printer then when you Add Printer in XP don't select Network but select Local. Under Local when you choose the port for the printer select Standard TCP/IP port. This will take you into another wizard where you set up the IP address of the printer as a port on your PC. Do that, then carry on and set up the printer by installing the drivers or selecting from the list
You'll have to do this on each PC in turn but it should work

yea bishop i have gone through all those steps,

i have made some new observations, since the 2003 server does not support the 6943 hp deskjet printer then I could install a driver for similar device this tip i got from a techrepublic forum. though i got the driver for a similar device 694C but it did not work.

let me capsule the situation

a 2003 domain controller having 2 LAN card with 2 xp client connected to it , one LAN card has internet on it IP 192.168.1.20
and the second lan card is a gateway for the two xp client in the domain.

then i have an xp pc having 2 lan card serving as a gateway for another xp. IP for internet card is 192.168.1.10 and the second lan card is 192.168.0.211 and it client IP is 192.168.0.212. all systems are connectrd to one switch.

2003 has to have the printer driver installed and shared for its domain client to be able to print but 2003 server doesnt support the driver. and I have to add the network 192.168.0.0 to the routing table when i issue route print command using route add command
