try "dir flash[0]: "

and notice the config.TEXT (not .txt)
More

The Password Recovery Site provided by ZiPPy is correct, and the procedures you made was correct, if this is the output of your Recovery steps then you made a simple mistyping mistake:-) you actually forgot to insert the semicolon when you were listing the flash directory structure:

[code:1]
switch: dir flash
unable to stat flash/: no such device
[/code:1]

it is actually this command, same with semicolon to access the flash root directory:

[code:1]
switch: dir flash:
[/code:1]

Please re-do the password recovery procedure and do your best to not mistype any critical commands. you tried to re-name the configuration file and you mistyped the file name here too.

it is called config.text, and your command included config.txt! you see a slightly mistyping or missing characters could lead to frustrations

here is the right command:

[code:1]
switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old
[/code:1]

I hope this time the recovery will works properly.

about your Router I have not seen such output before but as you said there is a big chance it is a corrupted IOS or a corrupted CF card. try removing the CF card and see if the IOS will boot the mini recovery version from its ROM and it should put you in ROMmon> mode. if such so you could then download a clean IOS version uploaded to a TFTP server and copy it to override the corrupted one you have in your CF card.

good luck.

hi sose, sorry to inform you that but you did a spelling mistake as dentifrice noted it before. you were doing fine until you type config.txt to rename it instead of config.text you forgot the e character in text extension.

look to the out the switch throw when you used the commnad dir flash:

[code:1]switch: dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 5 <date> private-config.text
3 -rwx 556 <date> vlan.dat
5 drwx 192 <date> c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.SEE2
620 -rwx 1298 <date> config.text[/code:1]

look to the fourth output line:
620 -rwx 1298 <date> config.text

check the file name it is config.text, the extension is text actually and not the one we are custom to in windows txt the is a slightly difference and that is the e character shows up in cisco config.text

here is what you are expexted to type correctly for it to work:

[code:1]switch: rename flash:config.txt flash:config.old [/code:1]

good luck, don't surrender :)
