Case Study - LAN Data Speed

Hi there..
Recently i have a project to test data transfer speed on my LAN..
The idea is to study is it worth to have 10GB connection from core to core, 1GB at the distribution and access switch...Do user fully utilize the bandwidth?
Below are my first result...

Questions

1- Do you think 670KBps slow for LAN speed?
2- If the speed too slow, what probably cause the problems?
3- What is the standard benchmark for LAN(fast ethernet) data transfer ?
4- Any recommendation tools that can be use to get details about data transfer ?

One thing to do here would be to break the problem down. For example, try doing the test between two machines connected to the same edge switch and get a benchmark there, then repeat the test at the core. The idea is to test the performance of the different parts of the network in isolation, because end-to end the network is only as fast as its slowest part and at the moment you don't know where that is. Also it would be worth experimenting with different arrangements for the test PCs with them both on a local switch to get maximum test throughput. All OSs impose an overhead and some file transfer methods will prove more efficient than others. For example, you are using SCP which will probably have a greater overhead than something like bog-basic FTP. Do this before using them to test the network with, as you'll then know you are generating the most traffic you can and you'll also be able to see whether it is actually your test PCs that are limiting the throughput and not the network at all
